Graphic Overlays

In many cases the Graphic Overlay provides the only link between a company’s name and the product it sells. A Graphic Overlay is often the “window dressing” on an otherwise plain box. AGE Nameplate uses only the highest quality materials to produce your Graphic Overlay, because your image is everything!

Unlike paper printing, Graphic Overlays begin with high quality clear polyester or polycarbonate substrates. Layers of ink are applied to the underside of the substrate in reverse order, starting with the fine graphic details and outlines and concluding with the opaque backing colors.

The process begins at AGE Nameplate in the graphic arts department. Our graphic engineers process the OEM’s graphic files separating the more translucent fine graphic details from the more opaque or custom blended colors. Two separate graphic files are sent to production.

Top-of-the-line digital ink printers apply the fine graphic details, outlines, and translucent colors that appear to the eye as the “top” layer of the overlay. Once complete, the substrate material is transferred to screen print production.

Silk Screening Custom screens are manufactured in-house to spec. Screens are stored clean and kept indefinitely to speed and accommodate OEM re-ordering. High-quality inks are custom blended to match OEM color requirements. This process adds opacity to the overlay while adding brilliance to the digitally applied layer.

Custom Graphic Overlays are then dried using UV or IR equipment depending upon the application. Once dry, backing materials and adhesives are applied to specification, sheets or rolls are precision die cut, and finished products receive a 100% quality inspection.
